The 2009 Economic Stimulus Bill – A Lot of Confusion
I read several papers Friday and browsed the Internet looking for a good (maybe even adequate) explanation of what happened this week in Washington. On the surface Congress passed a major spending bill - that's what it really is. Politicians smiled and the news stations continued their extensive coverage of this momentous event. However, I still don’t see how this is going to re-invigorate our economy and rescue Americans from this ever-widening crisis.
At the heart of it all is the little issue that Americans (individuals, corporations and, yes, our government) are swamped with debt. And that debt is secured by assets that are declining in value. This Stimulus Bill doesn't really address how we're going to get around this. Hence my search.
I did find a decent graphic that provides some guidance. Here’s the from the Wall Street Journal:

The President is scheduled to sign the bill Tuesday. Then we’re into a new ball game.
